In 2020 the Italian Council of Public Works issued the ‘Guidelines for risk classification and management, safety assessment and monitoring of existing bridges’. The adoption of this document aims to ensure the harmonization at the national level of risk classification, management and monitoring of existing bridges. Before the final approval, an experimental phase of application of the document is ongoing to support possible revisions. The application of the document to several case studies of bridges in the Lombardia region is the focus of this project.
